Springfield – Attorney General Kwame Raoul, announced today that his office charged two Sangamon County residents with forgery and allegedly falsifying information on FOID card applications submitted to the Illinois State Police (ISP).
Raoul’s office charged both individuals, who are from Springfield, Illinois, in Sangamon County Circuit Court over violations of the Firearms Owners Identification Card Act.
Jasmine Williams, 33, was charged with two counts of unlawful violation of the Firearms Owners Identification Card Act, Class 2 felonies punishable by up to seven years in prison; and two counts of forgery, Class 3 felonies punishable by up to five years in prison. Her next court appearance is Dec. 4. Edracio Crumb, 23, was charged with two counts of forgery, Class 3 felonies punishable by up to five years in prison. His next court appearance is Dec. 11.
“Protecting communities from gun violence means making sure that firearms are possessed and licensed in accordance with the law,” Raoul said. “I will continue to work with local law enforcement to prosecute individuals who lie on FOID card applications.”
Raoul’s office alleges that in 2022 Williams and Crumb knowingly forged a FOID application and then delivered it to the ISP. In addition to the forgery, Williams allegedly lied on her FOID applications.
“ISP takes very seriously the criteria in the FOID Act in which a person may be prohibited for having a firearm and we will continue to work with the Attorney General’s office to investigate individuals providing false information,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly.
In addition to prosecuting individuals who lie on FOID card applications, the Attorney General’s office works with state law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to increase awareness of Illinois’ red flag law, and to address gaps in Illinois’ firearms licensing system.
The public is reminded the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Assistant Attorney General Steven Knight is prosecuting the cases for Raoul’s Statewide Grand Jury Bureau and Assistant Attorney General Katherine Dowis is prosecuting the cases for Raoul’s Criminal Enforcement Bureau.
