Consumer Protection

For Businesses

''

When a business becomes a victim of a scam or fraudulent practices, the result is a waste of resources, time, and energy that would otherwise be directed toward your business goals. Even the most watchful and diligent business could get caught up in telemarketing schemes, office supply scams, or payment rip-offs by service providers, to give just a few examples.

The Office of the Attorney General will protect small businesses from fraud and will be available to help you work through situations that arise.

Data Breach Reporting for Businesses and State Government Agencies

Businesses can be vulnerable to data breaches on many fronts. Hackers can take personal information from your corporate server. Information could be exposed on your company’s website, or an insider might steal customer information.

All states have enacted legislation requiring notification of security breaches involving personal information. In addition to notifying affected Illinois residents, certain businesses and state agencies must also notify the Illinois Attorney General.

Registering and Monitoring Franchise Sales

For business franchises, the Illinois Attorney General is the administrator of the Franchise Disclosure Act. This Illinois law details the presale disclosures for selling franchises and protections for prospective franchisees.
